General Questions
Tropical AgriFoods is a Ghana-based food and agri-food company developing and supplying food products for households, institutions and distribution partners across Ghana and the wider West African region.
Our primary processing and logistics facility is located in Tamale, Northern Ghana, ensuring proximity to primary agricultural production zones. We also maintain coordination offices in Accra to support national distribution and institutional partnerships.
We are a commercially structured enterprise with a strong developmental mandate. Our operations are designed to be financially sustainable while simultaneously delivering measurable social impact — specifically through improved nutrition, local sourcing and employment creation.
Products & Nutrition
C-REAL™ is our flagship fortified cereal blend. It is formulated using locally sourced maize, soybeans, and rice, and is fortified with essential vitamins and minerals to address common dietary gaps in West Africa.
Many diets in our region rely heavily on starchy staples that provide energy but lack sufficient micronutrients (such as iron, zinc, calcium, and vitamin A). Fortification is a proven, cost-effective method to add these missing nutrients to foods that families already eat regularly, supporting physical growth, cognitive development, and immune health without requiring changes to dietary habits.
OBASIMA is a recognized fortification framework and alliance developed to standardize and promote the fortification of staple foods in Ghana. Products developed in alignment with OBASIMA guidelines meet specific, scientifically validated criteria for micronutrient inclusion levels designed for the local population.
We strongly support exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. While C-REAL is highly nutritious, it is designed as a family cereal and complementary food for older children and adults. Specific feeding advice for infants under 24 months should always follow national health guidelines and pediatric advice.
Ingredients & Sourcing
We source our primary ingredients — including maize, soybeans, rice, groundnuts, and shea — domestically. We procure from aggregators who work with smallholder farmers across Northern Ghana, as well as from medium-scale commercial farms that meet our quality standards.
Quality control begins at the sourcing stage with moisture testing and visual inspection to prevent aflatoxin contamination. During processing, we implement strict hygiene protocols, sorting procedures, and batch tracking. Our operations adhere to local regulatory standards set by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Ghana.
Preparation & Use
C-REAL is designed for convenience. Simply mix the desired amount of dry cereal with a small amount of cold water to form a smooth paste, then add boiling water while stirring continuously until it thickens. It requires minimal cooking time (under 10 minutes) and can be sweetened to taste. Clear instructions are provided on all packaging.
Yes. Our fortified cereals are formulated specifically to meet the nutritional and logistical requirements of institutional feeding. We supply products in bulk packaging (e.g., 25kg sacks) suitable for school kitchens, ensuring easy preparation and consistent nutrient delivery for students.
Distribution & Supply
Our consumer-packaged products are currently distributed through regional networks in Northern Ghana and select urban markets, primarily via open-market vendors, local provision stores, and targeted retail outlets.
We are continually expanding our distribution network. Businesses interested in wholesale purchase or regional distributorships should contact our commercial team via the Distributors page. Minimum order quantities apply for distributor pricing.
Partnerships & Engagement
Yes. We maintain institutional supply capabilities to fulfill bulk orders of fortified cereals and staple grains for NGO programming, humanitarian relief, and development projects. We can provide necessary documentation for institutional procurement compliance.
We are open to partnerships regarding agricultural supply chain development, nutrition interventions, and market expansion. Institutions and partners can contact us directly via the For Business or Contact sections to discuss potential collaboration.
